Spilled a drink or dropped your device in water? Bring it to us quickly — the sooner we can clean the board, the better the chances of saving it.
What to do right now
- Switch the device off and leave it off. Powering it on can short the board.
- Do not plug it in to charge, even if it looks fine.
- Do not put it in rice — it does nothing for corrosion and leaves dust inside.
- Don't use a hairdryer or radiator; heat pushes moisture further in.
- Get it to us as soon as you can. Corrosion starts within hours.
How we repair liquid damage
We open the device and inspect the logic board under magnification to see how far the liquid travelled and what has already corroded. Boards are cleaned to lift corrosion off the components and connectors, then dried and re-inspected.
From there we test power, charging, display, audio, cameras and buttons to find what still isn't working. Some faults are fixed at board level — a corroded track, a failed filter or a damaged connector. Others need a part replaced, such as a screen, battery, charging port or camera module. We quote you before any paid work begins.
Honest expectations
Liquid damage is the one repair nobody can guarantee. Two identical phones with the same spill can have very different outcomes depending on what the liquid touched and how long it sat there. We'll tell you honestly what we find and what it's worth spending. Diagnostics are free and if we can't fix it, you don't pay a repair fee.
Because corrosion can keep developing after a device is dried and cleaned, liquid damage repairs are excluded from our standard 12-month repair warranty. Any new part we fit is still covered in its own right.
Getting your data back
If the device can't be economically repaired, we can often still recover photos, messages and files — see data recovery. You can drop the device into the shop in Bishopbriggs, arrange pickup and drop-off around Glasgow, or use our mail-in repair service.
Frequently Asked Questions
My phone still works after getting wet — do I need it looked at?
Yes. Devices often keep working for days or weeks while corrosion spreads inside, then fail suddenly. An early clean is far cheaper than a dead board.
Does rice work?
No. Rice only absorbs a little surface moisture and does nothing about the corrosion already forming on the board. It also leaves starch and dust in the ports.
How long does a liquid damage repair take?
Cleaning and diagnosis usually takes a day. If parts are needed, timing depends on availability — we'll tell you when we quote.
How much does it cost?
Diagnostics are free and you get a clear quote before any work starts. Cost depends on what the liquid damaged. If we can't fix it, there's no repair fee.
Is liquid damage covered by your warranty?
Liquid damage repairs are excluded from our standard 12-month repair warranty because corrosion can continue after cleaning. We explain this clearly before you approve any work.
